Join us to experience a nourishing sound-based practice with Anandra.
Our goal for this month's session is to invite you to totally "unplug" from the source(s) of your stress, so you can rest, relax, rejuvenate, and replenish in the yummy heart of sound vibration. Expect dreamy tanpura sounds and long slow tones that gently caress the subtle tension points in your heart/mind/body, layered with rhythmic Sanskrit mantra repetition to establish you in a steady, safe, sweet groove for whatever the rest of your day requires of you.
Experiencing anxiety and depression can be overwhelming and disabling. I should know! I might seem "spiritual" or whatever, but my nervous system gets tugged in both directions too.
I've been using sound and mantra to self-regulate my nervous system and give my mind something uplifting to chew on for decades now. Whenever Life gets intense, I lean in on my sound-based yoga practices and feel SO. MUCH. BETTER. And I'm not alone...
"I had such a high anxiety week, and NOTHING I tried brought it down, until I chanted with you. The yoga of sound is indispensable...I am f...
Cultivating a musical response to the symphony of dissonant notes screaming for attention in our world right now is not a distant, poetic idea. Itās a tangible, practical skill. Uncomfortable, yes. Difficult, yes. Full of the mess of aliveness, yes. A swift and tidy spiritual bypass would be much easier. But leaning in to listen deeply, to feel whatās truly alive in us, can also make this moment resonant with hope and possibility.
Have you been tempted to write off someone in your life who has (or hasnāt) adopted a particular conspiracy narrative with the pandemic?

In this interview by Jeff Greenwald for The Nine Gifts,Ā Anandra speaks about the Healing Power of Voice.
Jeff Greenwald:
We begin to control the sounds we make when we are babiesābut when and why do we actually start singing?
Anandra George:
That's a wonderful questionābut not being a developmental child psychologist or child linguist, I can't answer that with any kind of authoritative stance. But I can answer from my own perspective.
When I was a child, my mother told me that I was humming to myself all the time. She would always ask me, "What are you singing? Wh...
When I read the research summaries offered in the links below, my personal experience corroborates a resounding āYES!ā to the many benefits they describe. Iām grateful to have discovered the healing effects of sound, singing, mantra, group singing, and prayer long before medical science confirmed their value, and Iām sure itās just the beginning. Many medical experts and visionaries agree that sound is the medicine of the future, as it has been an integral part of healing and rejuvenation in Ayurveda for millennia.

Musings on the practical transformation I've experienced through my sound-based yoga practice... written while gazing out at the HimÄlayan range during a 2017 pilgrimage.
Ordinarily our awareness is limited to the sensations within the body. However, when we consciously enter sound, our awareness expands into the space within and surrounding our physical body. This vibratory sphere becomes our āsound body,ā if you will, and gives us a visceral sense of transcendence. The dimensional quality is multi-directional; we can go within, to the point of emergence of sound. We...
This post has been long-gestating within me, as Iāve grappled with my own deeply seated belief systems about āwho I am,ā and what rights I have to teach mantra and nÄda yoga as a non-Indian white woman. My own story of horrifying mistakes and the long road Iām walking on towards integrity aside (Iāll tell it later), Iād like to offer this list of resources right away. (Scroll down to straight to it.) Itās a work in progress, coming home to truthā¦ and the first step is educating ourselves so we can begin to have the difficult conversations within ourselves.
Many of the...
